Process Paper

    Our group chose this project because we found it interesting to learn about how largely communication has impacted the Lewis and Clark expedition. We also believed that the Lewis and Clark expedition embodies the NHD topic of communication. Throughout the entire expedition, Lewis and Clark utilize several methods of communication which in correlation aided the development of our country. The expedition provided geographical evidence as well as a deeper understanding of the unexplored land. We believed that as a group Lewis and Clark expedition would correlate to this year's topic as throughout the entire expedition there were several methods of communication utilized. We believed that the entire expedition played a huge role in the country's development as a strong nation and wouldn't have been as successful without the use of communication.

    Our group researched NHD websites provided to us by our teacher. We wanted a diverse amount of documents ranging from documentaries, primary sources, and secondary sources. Primary sources would display first-hand accounts of Lewis and Clark's findings, especially what they provided the colonies with, such as their original mapping of the territory, drawings of newfound species, as well as geographical evidence of features within the territory. Secondary sources provide us with a different perspective when being compared to primary sources. It allows for different perspectives to be provided allowing for a diverse selection of information.

   We have selected a website for our project because we believe that it would be a bigger platform to get all of our information across. Our group wanted to do a website because it would display our information in a neat and organized manner while allowing us to conveniently work on the project without meeting up. The individuals in our group could do a different section on the website and we could edit each other to make sure everything works well. With creating our project we decided to split up the work so that everyone has a proper job and knows how to execute this job when it comes down to submitting our final project. The website also allows for easy decoration and displaying of imagery to see what works and what does not. We would have a color theme to further organize and add final touches to the project.

   The Lewis and Clark expedition correlates to this year's topic of communication throughout history. Looking into the category of communication throughout history it specifically correlates to the Lewis and Clark expedition as they utilized different methods of communications to get their information across a large number of people. By using communication methods such as journaling, mapping, and hand signals allowed for the potential to gather an immense amount of information about the unknown land and hence correlate to the development of our country. Communication played a huge role within our nation specifically the Lewis and Clark expedition.
