Hand Signals Overview

Lewis and Clark had a huge and courageous mindset that involved a lot of different communication through people and places they traveled throughout. Both Lewis and Clark knew absolutely nothing regarding different cultures and races. Due to the idea that communication had a big role in their dream and huge mindset, they had to find a way to communicate with others through the expedition. They ended up hiring a man named George Drouillard and paid him $25 a month to help them achieve their goal as to what they wanted from this expedition overall. George was well aware of the Indian sign language and he knew how to communicate with others using it. Throughout their journey, they came across people who they have never seen before and weren’t able to understand what they were speaking. With the help of George Drouillard, they understood who they were and just an overall better understanding of them. Without George, everything was gibberish to them. He was used as an interpreter and a hunter which was super beneficial to them.
